DeFi lender CrediX disappears after suffering $4.5 million hacking damage

  • The website and X account of CrediX, which conducts DeFi lending, have been offline since August 4th local time.
  • The company suffered an infringement due to unauthorized access to the administrator wallet and misuse of the bridge, allowing the issuance of unsupported tokens and depletion of the liquidity pool. The stolen funds were bridged from Sonic to Ethereum.
  • This incident has further compounded the bleak outlook for cryptocurrency investors in 2025. In the first half of this year, $2.5 billion has been lost due to hacking and fraud.

According to the blockchain security company CertiK, the project team of CrediX, which conducts DeFi lending, disappeared a few days after suffering a hacking loss of 4.5 million Dollars (approximately 660 million yen, based on an exchange rate of 1 Dollar = 147 yen), and the X account has been inactive since August 4 local time, with the website also being offline.

This sudden disappearance has raised concerns of an "exit scam" where developers abandon their responsibilities towards the project and investors' funds without any notice.

The loss amounting to 4.5 million Dollars is related to unauthorized access to the admin wallet and the exploitation of the bridge roll, allowing the attackers who conducted the hacking to issue unsupported tokens through these unauthorized accesses, thereby depleting the liquidity pool.

Hackers moved funds from Sonic to Ethereum and distributed them across multiple addresses. A few hours after the breach, CrediX promised to refund users within 24 to 48 hours and instructed withdrawals through a contract, but the frontend did not return, and no recovery plan has been announced.

This incident, deemed as fraud and an exit scam, will present an even harsher reality for cryptocurrency investors in 2025, with the total losses due to hacking and fraud in the first half of this year amounting to 2.5 billion Dollars (approximately 367.5 billion yen).
