TEN Protocol: Innovative Ethereum Layer 2 Solution

Recently, a group of former core members of R3 launched TEN Protocol, which is an Ethereum Layer 2 Rollup protocol focused on complete data encryption. This protocol allows developers to flexibly choose which parts of the smart contract need to remain private or public.

The developer of TEN, Obscuro Labs, recently completed a $9 million funding round, with investors including several well-known institutions. TEN is currently in the testnet phase and is expected to launch its mainnet in October, with its native token scheduled to be released in June.

Innovative Technologies Address Multiple Pain Points

TEN has launched an innovative Confidential Rollup technology, a new type of Rollup inspired by Optimistic Rollup and ZK Rollup. By combining confidential computing technology and economic incentive mechanisms, TEN achieves confidentiality, shortens withdrawal periods, and addresses the MEV problem while retaining the performance and simple programming model of Optimistic Rollup.

Confidential Rollup utilizes Secure Enclaves and the POBI (Proof of Block Inclusion) protocol. Secure Enclaves provide a secure execution environment for sensitive data, while POBI ensures fair selection and reward distribution for Rollup winners.

Compared to other L2 solutions, TEN has the following advantages:

  1. Shorten withdrawal time
  2. Completely decentralized, avoiding single points of failure
  3. Fully compatible Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)
  4. Implement comprehensive encryption on the entire L2 to provide privacy protection.

Improve User Experience and Unlock Diverse Use Cases

The technology of TEN provides a better experience for users in the crypto world and opens up a variety of application scenarios:

  1. Ordinary retail investors: Prevent becoming a victim of MEV
  2. Enterprise users: meet the encryption requirements for transaction details.
  3. Applications: Implement contract-level privacy protection

In the DeFi space, TEN allows developers to choose between public and private content at a granular level. This privacy protection mechanism helps to achieve on-chain versions of dark pools and over-the-counter trading in traditional finance.

In the gaming field, TEN supports the development of games that rely on player behavior and confidentiality of location, such as "fog of war" type strategy games. This provides game developers with the opportunity to shift from a "play-to-earn" to a "pay-to-play" business model.

In addition, TEN can improve the privacy of the naming system by creating aliases that cannot be linked to the underlying addresses, protecting user anonymity.

Other potential application scenarios include areas that require privacy protection, such as auctions, gambling, and commercial agreements.

Experienced Team Background

The TEN team's focus on privacy stems from their experience at R3. Over 50% of the team members come from R3 and hold executive positions, all of whom are industry veterans.

The founding team includes:

  • Gavin Thomas: Former head of R3 Corda blockchain system
  • Tudor Malene: Former Chief Engineer and Solutions Architect at Corda
  • Cais Manai: Former Head of Products for R3 Payments and Digital Asset Projects
  • James Carlyle: Former Chief Engineer of R3, Co-designer of Corda

The team's rich experience provides a solid foundation for the development of TEN.

With the continuous testing of the testnet and the upcoming launch of the mainnet, TEN is preparing to become a leading Layer 2 solution in the Web3 space. Its native token TEN will be used to incentivize node operation, cover operational costs, facilitate protocol governance voting, and provide future incentives for ecological development.
