Mysten Labs Commercial Product Director Discusses How Blockchain Technology Serves Enterprises

Recently, we interviewed the Commercial Product Director of Mysten Labs to discuss how blockchain technology can provide commercial services for enterprises, and the advantages of Sui in these use cases.

The director is currently responsible for leading the commercial product team at Mysten Labs. She stated that commerce encompasses all aspects and may be fundamental to most things, involving various fields such as gaming, retail, loyalty, travel, and ticketing.

She has been exploring the blockchain field for six years. After getting into this field in 2017, she took a break for about 14 months to care for her child. When she returned to work, she hoped to develop in an interesting, complex, and challenging technological area. Through a friend's introduction, she gradually learned about blockchain, even though much of it left her feeling overwhelmed.

As a user experience expert, she pays great attention to finding the simplest way to understand problems. She found that, just like now, the information related to Blockchain was quite chaotic. But she ultimately believes that Blockchain can solve a clear problem: asset ownership and digital agency. In traditional Web2, users' data and online behavior do not belong to themselves, but to the companies they interact with.

Blockchain has disrupted everything. Transactions, assets, and outcomes all belong to the users themselves. Additionally, she is very interested in the privacy implications of blockchain technology, especially how zero-knowledge technology can achieve common online operations in a way that better protects privacy.

She expressed that she likes Blockchain not as a standalone entity, but as an infrastructure that can collectively improve the internet. Sui has this potential and serves as an infrastructure suitable for the internet. She believes that many other Blockchains, although excellent, are often slower and more expensive, making them less suitable for enterprise use. In contrast, Sui has more potential to tackle these challenges. She looks forward to Sui validating her assumptions about Blockchain and its potential impact on the entire internet.

For companies that have developed well in the Web2 field, she suggests considering issues from a business perspective. Taking the sales funnel as an example, companies try to attract as many people as possible into the top of the funnel, allowing as many people as possible to naturally drop off to ultimately reach the bottom of the funnel and complete the conversion.

The top of the funnel is a complex area, primarily involving advertising. Businesses attempt to attract people to learn about their operations, products, and engage with the brand. The biggest challenge for small businesses is acquiring customers, including how to tell the brand story, find target customers, adjust sales methods, and maintain sustainability. However, in the current internet environment, these challenges have become even more daunting.

First of all, there is the issue of privacy. The only way the early internet provided personalized content was by collecting and holding a large amount of personal information. This led to transactions involving the sale of such information, and the advertising industry became addicted to purchasing private data. Regulations such as GDPR and CCPA were established to protect personal privacy. However, this also means that the quality of data required to build customer channels has declined.

Blockchain can contribute to this data ecosystem by using zero-knowledge technology to provide information about people's behavior back to the internet, without sharing private information. Zero-knowledge enables individuals to verify facts more intelligently. The speed and scalability of Sui make it an ideal choice for providing services for real-time internet queries using zero-knowledge.

Sui can provide zero-knowledge proof services at internet speed and predictable costs. It also has the capability to offer dynamic, composable NFTs, making loyalty programs more meaningful to customers.

The director believes that Sui represents a new era of Blockchain, where companies should consider incorporating it into their tech stack when investing in infrastructure. Some things can only be achieved through a Blockchain like Sui, or can only be secured by using a Blockchain like Sui.

Regarding the difference between Web2 and Web3, she believes that this distinction is only useful when describing the differences between Blockchain technology and standard internet technology. At some point in the future, this distinction will become irrelevant, as we are simply trying to make the existing internet better for everyone.

For end users to understand the value of decentralized technology and blockchain, she believes there will be different types of users. Some people will delve into the technical details of blockchain networks, while others will focus on the implications for their own activities. There are also some who may not care much about the technology itself and just hope to have a good user experience and security assurance.

What excites her the most about the future of Sui is the zkLogin feature. This will allow users to access the blockchain using common login methods, eliminating the need to remember complex keys. This is a significant step forward and could bring a large number of users into the blockchain world.
