The year-on-year increase in the number of newborns in South Korea in April reached the highest level in 34 years.

Jin10 Data as of June 25th, according to the data released by the Korean Statistical Office on the 25th, driven by the increase in the number of marriages and changes in population structure, the number of newborns in South Korea in April increased by 8.7% year-on-year, reaching the highest monthly growth rate in 34 years. The data shows that a total of 20,717 babies were born in South Korea in April, 1,658 more than the same period last year. The month-on-month growth rate is the largest since April 1991, which is on par with the year-on-year growth rate of newborns in April 1991. This is also the first time since April 2022 that the number of newborns in a single month has exceeded 20,000.
